Split Column Wraps & Column Covers

Split column wraps are a smart, stylish way to upgrade existing porch posts or structural supports without demolition. Whether you’re restoring a historic home or enhancing a new build, our wraps provide a seamless, architectural look in lightweight, easy-to-install materials like FRP, polyurethane, and polymer stone. Every wrap is made to order, with half or full split options and multiple styles to match your project. This page will guide you through the material options, use cases, and installation benefits of each.

What Are Column Covers and Surrounds?

Column covers—also called surrounds or column wraps—are typically full-length shafts split in half to wrap around existing structural posts. They’re also commonly used as decorative pilasters or corner features. Materials like FRP, urethane, and PVC are manufactured as two halves and can be reassembled on-site or factory-assembled before delivery. Heavier options like GFRC are delivered in multiple segments for easier handling during installation.Columns originally manufactured as single units—such as fiberglass, polymer stone, or wood—can be custom-split to function as wraps for lally columns, wood posts, or interior corners. While many of our architectural columns are load-bearing, structural supports are only necessary in uplift zones or where required by code. Contact your engineer or call us for clarification. These products can also be installed simultaneously with structural framing to eliminate visible seams caused by post-splitting.Our Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) columns come standard as two halves with lap joints for easy reassembly around structural members. FRP can also be fabricated without lap joints for use as pilasters or factory-assembled into full shafts. Despite being one of the thinnest materials we offer, FRP’s fiberglass reinforcement gives it incredible strength—stronger than steel. For high-impact applications, we can increase the thickness upon request.

Polyurethane Column Wraps – Easy to Install and Customize

Our polyurethane column wraps are designed for maximum flexibility and ease of installation. Each shaft is manufactured in two halves, which are typically factory-assembled into full columns. When a split column wrap is required, we ship the halves unassembled—ready to wrap around structural supports on-site.

Each half includes an interlocking edge for fast, secure reassembly. The cap and base can be split on-site using standard woodworking tools and then fitted around the shaft. Since our polyurethane columns come primed with two coats of high-quality primer, only minor touch-ups are needed at the seam before applying your final paint finish.

PVC Column Wraps – Lightweight and Low-Maintenance

The column wrap pictured here is made from Cellular PVC—a lightweight, low-maintenance material ideal for wrapping existing porch posts or structural supports. While surrounds are available in all our column materials, PVC column wraps come standard as two corner halves for quick and simple installation.

For custom projects, we can modify the split configuration beyond just two halves to meet unique architectural needs. Explore our available PVC styles and sizes, or compare with other column wrap materials we offer to find the perfect fit for your project.

Pilasters & Polymer Stone Column Wrap

The pilaster shown here is part of our Polymer Stone column wrap line—ideal for adding timeless architectural detail to flat surfaces, walls, or facades. All of our columns and pilasters are available in a variety of styles and plan types to suit both interior and exterior applications.
